Zimbrul Alb

White Wisent
Shades of the world are half turned to nothing
Empires and ages, I turn all to rime.
All that I cherished and once put my faith in
Defeated and frozen lies now left behind.
Snow-fraught clouds urge me again
In lattermost border to seek my den.
Attended to grace by a sea of clouds.
My voiceless call stirs to motion
In the starkest white I see colours in crowds.
White wisent, come riding the northerly gale
As frost-heavy tears beget us anon
In lives reft of justice then crush our avail
And in the whole journey sin may we shun.
White wisent, wield you the blizzard to sunder
All that is purest and holy among us –
Parents from offspring, sister from brother,
All wealth into sands and high station to dust.
Snow-fraught clouds urge me again
In lattermost border to seek my den.
Attended to grace by a sea of clouds
My voiceless call stirs to motion
In the starkest white I see colours in crowds.
White wisent, come riding the northerly gale
As frost-heavy tears beget us anon
In lives reft of justice then crush our avail
And in the whole journey sin may we shun.
Consumed in the flames of my own vision wailing
On my very own pyre I dissolve in the blaze
My quickening fire I cannot still with
All oceans’ vast waters and all the snowfalls of days.
Snow-fraught clouds urge me again
In lattermost border to seek my den.
Attended to grace by a sea of clouds
My voiceless call stirs to motion
In the starkest white I see colours in crowds.
White wisent, come riding the northerly gale
As frost-heavy tears beget us anon
In lives reft of justice then crush our avail
And in the whole journey sin may we shun.
White wisent, come riding the northerly gale...

Urmează-mă, fii a mea,
Lumea ta o lasă!
Pe-al meu cer să răsari,
Să-mi fii mireasă.
Urmează-mă, fii a mea,
Te-oi duce-n veacuri multe
Și lumile din ocean
De tine-or asculta.
Fie-mi surată și fie-mi mireasă
Buzelor mele fără glas.
Tu urmează-mi și fie-mi acasă
Drumului meu fără niciun popas.

Toți copiii pământurilor
Sunt ca spuma mărilor.
Orice adiere de vânt
Îi întoarce în pământ.
Iubirile lor sunt doar
Stele ce cad din cer.
Mersul le e luminos,
Dar într-o clipă pier.
Învinși de amintiri
Se mistuie rând pe rând
Și tot ce rămâne din ei
E un cântec ca acest cânt.
The Maiden in the Golden Garden
Away from our earthly kingdom, ensconced in a castle
A fair princess lived, her beauty could dazzle.
Of golden trees was its garden and precious stones in its halls
Yet all around it stood guarding towering tall steel walls.
On every night her he’d espy
He would turn into wind, on her shoulders he’d light
On every night her he would eye
A star as his guise.
On every day on her he would pore.
On every sacred day, her he’d adore.
Subdued by her beauty, he would have exchanged
Immortality for her kisses.
Unite with me, pray be mine
Your world set aside!
On my skies that you rise
To become my bride.
Unite with me, pray be mine
To aeons on end we will flee
The ocean’s worlds will consign
Their own allegiance to thee.
Pray be my equal and the bride abreast
To these my lips in silence pent.
Pray unite with me, protect it in rest,
My journey unwinding without relent.

All children of Earth in the middle –
Foam for the waves to twiddle.
The slightest blow of the breeze
Restores them to earth with ease.
Their passionate loves are but
Stars that fall from the skies
In gleams their journey is wrought
But swift is their demise.
By memories subdued
They dwindle until they’re gone
And all that they leave behind
Is a song not unlike this one.

Apoi c-a umblat
Lumea-n lung și-n lat
Și nici că l-a aflat.
Prin lumea toată,
Prin stele roată.
Împărat,
Cine înaltul cerului l-a alungat?
Și lumina zilelor a ferecat?
Cine brazda lumii a întunecat?
Apoi c-a umblat
Lumea-n lung și-n lat,
Nici că l-a aflat.
Prin lumea toată,

Împărat,

Împărat,

Împărat,
Cine soră dragă ți-a înstrăinat?

Emperor, mighty emperor,
In whom gold and flint have come astir,
On the longest of days was lost to our gaze
On the darkest of nights was lost to our sights
That he roamed astride
The world far and wide
And never yet espied
The world near and far
Spun around a star.
Emperor,
By whom the welkins high were made to err?
Who the light of days has hid into a blur?
Who the plough of worlds in darkness did inter?
Emperor.
Ileana, Ilia Ileana
Brother’s peerless treasure above all
On the longest of days was lost to our gaze
On the darkest of nights was lost to our sights
That she roamed astride
The world far and wide
Never yet espied
The world near and far
Spun around a star.
Emperor,
By whom the welkins high were made to err?
Who the light of days has hid into a blur?
Who the plough of worlds in darkness did inter?
Emperor.
Emperor,
By whom the welkins high were made to err?
Emperor,
Who the light of days has hid into a blur?
Emperor,
Who the plough of worlds in darkness did inter?
Emperor,
By whom your dearest sister was made to divert?

CÂNTECUL SOARELUI
Soare răsare nimănui nu mă da
Soare apune hai de nu mă lăsa
Soare răsare nimănui nu mă da
Soare apune singură nu mă lăsa
În lumea rea
Umblă-n zare mândrul soare
Umblă să se-nsoare
Nouă ai pe nouă cai
Ce pasc noaptea-n rai
Umblă cerul și pământul
Repede ca vântul
Dar toți caii-și obosea
Potrivă nu-și găsea
Precum sora sa Ileana
Ileana Cosânzeana
Ce-i frumoasă ca o floare
În iarnă fără soare
Soare răsare nimănui nu mă da
Soare apune hai de nu mă lăsa
Soare răsare nimănui nu mă da
Soare apune singură nu mă lăsa
În lumea rea
Dara Domnul-Dumnezeu
Cuvânta cu graiul său;
Iar când Domnul cuvânta,
Lumile se spăimânta,
Mările se tupila,
Munţii se cutremura,
Tu Ileană Cosânzeană
Fără de prihană
Și tu soare luminate
Fără de păcate
Voi cu ochii vă zăriți
Dară fiți despărțiți.
Veșnic să vă alungați
Cerul cutreierați
Soare răsare nimănui nu mă da
Soare apune hai de nu mă lăsa
Soare răsare nimănui nu mă da
Soare apune singură nu mă lăsa
În lumea rea
THE SONG OF THE SUN
Oh, high-rising Sun, let me not be others’ sworn
Oh, low-sinking Sun, leave me not to mourn
Oh, high-rising Sun, let me not be others’ sworn
Oh, low-sinking Sun, leave me not forlorn
Midst the wicked borne.
Seeks the sun ’cross welkins starry
Bride he hopes to marry
Nine astride on horses nine
Grazed in heaven’s night
Seeks on land and seeks on high
Faster than the wind can fly
Though his horses he’d exhaust
Match for him was ever lost
One like his sister Ileana
Ileana Cosânzeana
Who is fair as a flower
On a sunless wintry hour
Oh, high-rising Sun, let me not be others’ sworn
Oh, low-sinking Sun, leave me not to mourn
Oh, high-rising Sun, let me not be others’ sworn
Oh, low-sinking Sun, leave me not forlorn
Midst the wicked borne.
Lord Almighty way up high
Let his voice sound in the sky;
As th’Almighty spoke his word,
The worlds cowered when they heard,
All the seas in hiding blurred,
All the mountains shook and stirred.
You, Ileana Cosânzeana,
Pure as fabled manna,
And you, brightly shining sun,
Sinless as is none
Your eyes on each other dart
But for ay will stay apart.
Chase away each other’s heart
For the skies forever start.

HARAP ALB
- Împărate luminate,
Nu-ți cer pietre nestemate.
- Nici măcar împărăție?
- Jumătate nu-mi da mie,
Căci în pieptul meu răsare
- Ce răsare?
- Mândrul soare.
Ai o pasăre măiastră,
În inimă cuib și-a făcut.
Umbră are, nu are,
Ferită-n ceruri
Fără hotare,
Ascunsă-n iarbă
Înmiresmată,
Pe după lună
Stă pitulată,
Pe după zori.
- Mulți au vrut-o-n nălucire.
- Acum zac fără simțire...
- Mai bine eu ți-aș aduce
Trei smicele de măr dulce.
- Apă vie, apă moartă,
De dincolo de-a lumii poartă.
- Când nu-i soarele în cruce
-n capete munții se bat.
Umbră are, nu are,
Ferită-n ceruri
WHITE MOOR
- Oh, resplendent mighty sire,
Precious stones are not my hire.
- Neither half of my empire?
- Nought I covet or desire,
In my bosom it has soared
- What has soared?
- The sun adored.
As of your enchanted songbird
Deeply have I grown enamoured
Shadow trails her, nought trails her,
In endless heavens
She finds her shelter,
Concealed in grasses,
Fragrance abiding,
Behind the moon
She lies in hiding,
Behind the suns
White Moor…
- Men have yearned for her in numbers
- Now they sleep their squalid slumbers
- I had rather offer thee
Of sweet apple twigs times three
- Water quick and water still
From beyond the worldly sill
- When the sun is off its cross
Mountaintops will ay lock horns.
Shadow trails her, nought trails her,
In endless heavens
She finds her shelter,
Concealed in grasses,
Fragrance abiding,
Behind the moon
She lies in hiding,
Behind the dawn
White Moor…
Shadow trails her, nought trails her,
In endless heavens
She finds her shelter,
Concealed in grasses,
Fragrance abiding,
Behind the moon
She lies in hiding,
Behind the morn
Baldpate: On the edge of your broadsword do swear the oath that you will heed my word and obey me in every respect, even in fire were I to tell you to jump.

Vânător / Orion
Vânător -
Fiarelor pământului păstor -
Urme nevăzute îl chemau.
Călător,
Peste nori și stele îl purtau,
Zimbrii albi în turme îi afla.
Fiara blândă,
Sângerândă.
Vânător alungat
Piară însingurat.
Fiara l-adulmeca,
Fiara urma i-o lua,
Până la ultima lacrimă,
Până la marginea lumii.
Vânător
Iarba fiarelor el o hoțea,
Orice ascunzișuri deschidea.
Călător
Focul miazănoaptei îl fura,
Doar îngheț și frig în urma sa.
Fiara blândă
Sângerândă
Vânător alungat
Piară însingurat.
Fiara l-adulmeca,
Fiara urma i-o lua,
Până la ultima lacrimă,
Până la marginea lumii.
Hunter / Orion
Hunter –
Far and wide Earth’s wild beasts he would spur –
Following the call of seeming spoor.
Wanderer,
Over clouds and stars he’d chase their lure
Herds of wisents white he’d chance upon.
Beast unsavage,
Bleeding ravage.
Hunter, exile’s prize
Doomed to lonesome demise.
His scent the beast did sense,
His trail the beast followed thence,
On to the last flowing tear,
On to the the world’s last frontier.
Hunter
Enchanted wort of beasts, ’tis what he’d thieve,
Every hideout’s secret he would reave.
Wanderer
Fire of the north, ’tis what he’d steal,
Nought but frost and rime behind his heel.
Beast unsavage,
Bleeding ravage.
Hunter, exile’s prize
Doomed to lonesome demise.
His scent the beast did sense,
His trail the beast followed thence,
On to the last flowing tear,
On to the the world’s last frontier.

Drumul Robilor
Fără niciun cuvânt nu ieșim din rând
Înrobiți de milenii.
Pe tărâm neumblat ispășim păcat.
Stăpâni ne sunt viclenii.
Amară povară...
Fără niciun cuvânt am pierdut ce-i sfânt
Dintre ape vii iveam galaxii
Deasupra bradul lumii.
Amară povară
Amar un trai de robi fără țară.
Fără niciun cuvânt nu ieșim din rând
Înrobiți de milenii.
Road of Serfdom
In our muted confine, we have toed the line,
Bound in shackles for ages.
On untrodden land thrown, for sin we atone,
The wily rule our cages.
So grievous the onus…
In our muted confine, we have lost the divine
In the life-giving wellspring.
Our steps duly teem in a silvery stream
That inspires the faring.
So grievous the onus.
Serf’s grievous plight, of homeland reft, so heinous.
We have buried our bliss in the dark abyss,
Locked in phantasm’s shimmer.
You behold our decay in the lands far away,
With obscurity’s glimmer.
So grievous the onus.
Serf’s grievous plight, of homeland reft, so heinous.
Holy angels erst, we, world’s fathers first,
The abyss’s guards were.
From the living seas, we’d wring galaxies
Above the sacrosanct world fir.
So grievous, the onus
Serfs’ grievous plight upon home-disowned us.
Home-disowned us.
In our muted confine, we have toed the line,
Bound in shackles for ages.

Nirwana
Pe când nu era moarte, nimic nemuritor,
Nici sâmburul luminii de viață dătător,
Nu era azi, nici mâne, nici ieri, nici totdeauna,
Căci unul erau toate și totul era una;
Au cine-i zeul cărui plecăm a noastre inemi?
Cântare aduceți-i,
Și-n glas purtat de cântec simții duiosu-i viers,
Ș-aceluia, Părinte, să-i dai coroană scumpă,
08 Nirwana
In times when there was no death, nor such that never dies,
Nor yet that grain of glimmer from which all life does rise,
There was no now, nor morrow, nor yesterday or evermore,
As one was all in being and all were but one core;
In times when th’Earth, the welkin, the heavens, worlds beseen,
All thronged to fill the ranks of that which has never been,
Then You alone existed, that I must pause and wonder:
Who is that god in praise of whom all our hearts bow under?
Alone he stood as godhood before the gods’ prime source
And from colossal waters he kindled spark to life force,
He gives the gods their spirit and blessing to the world
Of humankind’s redemption he is the fount unfurled:
So raise your sunken spirits! And offer him affection,
He is the death of dying and life’s own resurrection!
To me he gave my eyesight, that I can see the day,
And then he brimmed my bosom with mercy’s wondrous way,
The soughing of yon breezes revealed to me his stride
In voices borne by singing, his soothing rhyming sighed,
Along with all these wonders, I beg for one more favour:
That he allow my passing, eternal rest to savour!
That he should lay a curse on the wight that gives me quarter
That he should bless the villain that pulls my fetters tauter,
That he should lend his ear to tongues that me would slender,
Endow the arm with strength that would be my living’s render,
And he of all the living should rank above the best
Who takes away the headstone that guards my place of rest.
Rejected by all peers, that I should cart my load,
Until my eyes grow barren for tears that have flowed,
That every human breathing is wont to be my foe,
That no more can I muster the wit myself to know,
That anguish and dejection have turned my sense to stone
That I can curse my mother, I’ve loved her to the bone –
When love and cruellest hatred seem one unto my eye…
Then might my anguish wither and I be free to die.
An outcast and an outlaw, if thus my end I meet
My miserable body be thrown into the street,
And he, my blessed Father, pray give him precious crown
Who sets his dogs upon me, my heart to tear down,
And he who hurls his hard stones, aimed at my very gaze
Be merciful, my Master, and give him endless days!
’Tis only thus, my Father, that I can bring you praise
For giving me the fortune to wend my worldly ways.
To ask for all your favours, I bend no knee or brow,
To hatred and to curses I’d urge you turn you prow,
That I should feel your breathing my breathing stifling taut
And in th’eternal dimming, I dwindle down to nought.
